What Causes Fabric Pilling? When fabric fibers become loose, they will move around when we sit or brush up against them. The friction from people rubbing up against the fabric causes loose fibers to twist together into small balls. Your laundry machine will also cause friction.
SUGGESTIONS WHEN THIS HAPPENS:
To get rid of pilling on your clothing, you can try household items, like a sandpaper sponge, a shaving razor, or a strip of Velcro. You can also use store-bought tools, such as a sweater comb, an electric sweater shaver, or a sweater stone.
Is fabric pilling preventable? Realistically, no. However, there are a number of choices you can make and tools you can use to mitigate the likelihood of pilling. Still not convinced? Check out reviews for pill removing tools, and you'll see that pilling is more common than you might think.
